We are at the Norfolk Waterside Marina, Nauticus Harbor section, in the middle of downtown Norfolk next to Town Point Park, where they are having the Bayou Boogaloo, a three day Cajun celebration, that starts Friday. Music, food, (as if I need more food) and fun. We are going to spend 7 days here exploring the area. We have a car courtesy of Doug's sister who had it delivered to us today. Is that service and hospitality or what?
We left Coinjock fat and happy Tuesday morning and headed to Great bridge for an overnight stop at the free (did I tell you we like free?) docks just South of the Great Bridge Locks. This makes for a great overnight stop because there is a Fresh Farms grocery store just up the street, a great Mexican Restaurant across the bridge, and the docks are free. (I know, I know, you know)
After our goose wake-up-call, we passed through the lock and headed into bridge hell. The Norfolk part of the ICW is noted for its pain in the you know what bridges, shipping channels, and ship yards. Well, as usual, one of the railroad bridges was broken and we had to wait for it to be fixed. Waiting isn't the bad part, the bad part is everything else going on in the channel while you are trying to hold a 47 ton 55 ft. boat in the channel with current, wind, another bridge being torn down 600 yards on your side from the one being fixed, and another half dozen boats doing the same dance you are doing. Stephanie couldn't watch, she went down into the salon. Well, after a time, the bridge was fixed and we were off to our marina. This is going to be a great place to explore. Expect lots of pictures. Sorry, I forgot the camera on our first walk, But I promise, I will remember it the next time we head out. Now it's time to finish off the leftover prime rib.
