Good friends

I'm catching up, but still have a lot to do. A night at anchor helps.
I wanted to mention, today, Tuesday, 9/11/2012, eleven years after the attack on the World Trade Center, we traveled down the beautiful Hudson, and passed the new World Trade Center, and the 9/11 memorial at 11:00AM, on 9/11, on the 11th anniversary of the attack. We shall always remember!
We left Block Island, and headed to Noank, CT. The plan was to dock at Nyman's Fuel Dock, and Ford Lobster, and meet up with good cruising friends, Steve and Di, (Sanctuary, the yacht they are captaining) Bob and Nonnie (MV Miss Grace, who we spent time in the Islands with last spring) and Dave and Pat (MV Sceptre). Best laid cruising plans! We arrived mid afternoon. Steve and Di were headed our way and had to turn back because of rough seas. Bob and Nonnie and Dave and Pat were going to drive to Noank, so the get-together was delayed by a day. Our schedule is, we have no schedule, so we stayed an extra day. The gang was going to arrive late afternoon the next day, so we put the tender in the water, and drove to Mystic, CT, the home of Mystic Seaport. We were there by car twelve years ago, but to see it by water is always different. What a neat place! After a slice at the world famous Mystic Pizza, a little exploring, and play time on the beach with the girls, it was time for cocktail hour with the gang on Sanctuary. (73 foot Outer Reef, WOW!) After cocktail hour, we headed up the dock to pig out on lobstah, have a fun time with friends, and close the place down. OH, it is also a BYOB. Love BYOB's! Good thing they didn't rent the tables by the hour!

If you are wondering what a Lobster pound is, this is a lobster pound.

Mystic Seaport is home to a number of old sailing vessels.

Mystic Seaport Village.

They also restore old ships.

The Mystic River Bridge is a bascule type bridge, and was built in 1920. What a cool old bridge.

Had to stop for a slice, at the famous Mystic Pizza. It lived up to its reputation!

Block Island, RI

Block Island was just a short stop, but that didn't mean we couldn't do a little exploring, and have a little fun. We took the family car (tender) into town, and most of the stores are the same as many we have seen, t-shirts etc, so we didn't do a whole lot of the town thing, but we did find a fun watering hole, The Oar Bar and Grill. As always, we met some interesting, and fun people, and heard all the bartender stories. We haven't been in many places to take the girls to the beach on this trip, so we took advantage of the beach we found, and let the girls play. They were so happy!
From Block Island, we cruised to Watch Hill, anchored out, took the tender into Stonington (you have been there before with us on the way North, so we will skip that one) for the day, then headed to meet up with friends in Noank.

The Islands aren't the only place you can find a good rum punch.

A lot of bees this time of the year, so the bar puts out a little grenadine, and they all flock to it, rather than the customers' drinks. I said they should put a little rum in it, and give them a real buzz. Happy bees!

We have had lobster in a lot of different ways, but a lobster club....If it has lobster in it, it must be good...And it was.

Now you know why this place is called The Oar Bar and Grill. There are hundreds of oars. people have put their boat names, and a lot of other things, and they hang them from the ceiling.

I love these signs.

The ferry terminal on Block Island.

They love to display their collection of lobster trap floats.

Another lobster shack. Great places, and delicious lobstah!

Fun with the girls at the beach.

Cassie, playing with her new toy.

We have 25 foot leashes for them if it's required, but it gives them plenty of line to play in the sand, chase their toys, and swim. HAPPY GIRLS!

We left Block Island, and headed to the  Watch Hill anchorage. It was the weekend, so the anchorage was crowded, and there were lots of boats rafted up and partying. It was time for a down night, so the four of us (two legged and four legged) had our own private party.

Martha, Martha

Still trying to catch up. Would you believe, Cassie and Godiva ate my homework? OK, the truth is, we have been with Joe, Julia, and all our good friends in New York for the last nine days. We started out with a fun Labor day Weekend at Lloyd Harbor, then on to Joe's Yacht Club, and a great time in New York City. What a great tour guide Joe is. More about New York in a blog as I catch up.
Martha's Vineyard was our next stop after Rockport. The Vineyard is a beautiful Island, and it's where Stephanie's family had a summer cottage, and she spent many summers there, and later it was a great getaway for her. It's a huge tourist area in the summer, and because it is an Island, the ferries are coming and going all day, with tons of people and cars.
The best way to see the Island, is to rent a vehicle. The first thought, was to rent a scooter, and Stephanie could be my moped Mama. We went to the Budget rental place, and the first thing we saw was a cool yellow Corvette convertible. $400.00 for six hours. NOT! OK, lets look at the scooters. OH, a red jeep with the top down! Lets do it! Stephanie trusts me to drive us on a scooter, but a red jeep with the top down, no contest. It turned out to be the best decision. After seeing the scooters getting passed, and trying to hug the sides of the narrow roads, it was a much safer choice. Besides....A red jeep with the top down!

Another beautiful, calm, warm day as we cruise to Martha's Vineyard.

We saw a couple of whales as we cruised to the Vineyard. This one first surfaced about 100 feet off our port side. I grabbed the camera, and got a picture as it surfaced farther out. They are so huge.

Lots of beautiful sailboats out enjoying a sail. Not a lot of wind, so they run the motor along with putting the sails up.

Sunset over Martha's Vineyard

Ferry, packed with people and cars, coming into the Vineyard

Our mooring ball was just inside the entrance to the harbor, so there are lots of photos of September Song floating around out there.
